BACKGROUND: 92 900 Turbo, 70,000 miles. As posted below, every few days the car hicups during acceleration or cruising, especially when its driving around in traffic on a hot day. I got trouble codes 12224 (rich mixture) and 12112 (incorrect mixture at idle). I started by replacing the fuel pump with a spare - no luck, so now I've been thinking about the ignition. I've already tried the plugs, cap, and rotor.
The hall sensor passed the tests in Bentley, and its wires look good (even where they enter the distributor). The ignition module also checked out OK. The resistance of the coil was 84000 ohms, a little over the 82000 spec in Bentley...
I'm not surprised everything checked out since this problem is intermittent, so I'm thinking I might be able to use my tach to help diagnose this. When the car hiccups, the tachometer does not drop to zero. I've read elsewhere on this board that this means that the hall sensor is working, and probably the ignition module is OK too but this is less clear. Assuming this is and ignition problem, would this clue point to a bad coil thats failing when it gets hot?
1. Could the ign module be bad but I still get a tach signal?
2. Are ignition coil failures common? What are you getting for resistance?
3. What else could be going on??? intermittent AMM problems?
Thanks everybody for your help on this. Ken
