no the wheel bearing will be fine, the only thing that might happen is,
if you brake lose the spindle and continue to whack the snot out of it the tri-pod at the other end of the axle will start hitting the inner driver wall, and when this happens..... hmm i guess id its hit hard enough the driver may take some damage. but unlikely.
with the knuckle bolted up all your looking for is to knock the spindle lose, and then it should be able to be removed the rest of the way by hand.
look to see if the spindle was tac. welded to the hub.
whats going to happen is when the 2x4 is hit the spindle end is going to dent into the wood, and its not going to give much of a reaction just because of this reason.
grab a pressure treated piece and use the cut end of the wood.
might have to have someone hold it in place while you swing.
go on just unload on it but dont miss hitting the person holding the piece of wood.

remember only swing until the spindle moves.
seeing how the end of the spindle is mushed i`m sure your going to have to use the dremel drill to smooth it out for the axle shaft to be able to fit through the hub. but then im not there to see the damage the spindle took. if the wood dose not work, ( i would smack the spindle with one good hit, seeing its going to need work anyway.)
might want to bolt one bolt on the upper and lower joint tight so the spindle takes the full effect of the swing.
if the spindle was tac welded to the hub...
well just let us know if you see burn marks or the weld itself.

(just a reminder, only swing to loosen the spindle)
don't worry about hitting the spindle with all your might, it might take the hole hit and the the car laughs at you, but I'm sure the spindle will give.
