New axles - and a happy ending, I hope.

First thank you to all who have come before me, and left such great information here. On my '93 900S, I just finished reassembly of the ps axle assembly, with rebuilt axle (ds also done). I did my best to measure the rebuilt axles before installation, and got a bit worried when I compared the old ps axle to the new/rebuilt one. The new one is slightly longer.
Came right in and searched here, found what I believe to be a positive plug for the rebuilt axle! I believe the ps axle had been replaced in the past with the wrong (shorter) size. So it appears the rebuild unit may be restoring my axle to the correct spec!
My question is about the ps inner driver - it's pretty worn anyway, worse than the ds driver, and I was (am?) resolved that it will need to be replaced. Might the 6mm of additional 'reach' from the longer axle cause the tripod bearing to 'avoid' the wear marks/indentations from the shorter axle? I guess if it doesn't clear them, it could even make matters worse, and suck the new bearing into the old indentations?
I guess I may be able to tell once I get it back on the road, but thought it would be good to have some opinion on whether I am introducing some accelerated wear into the mix. I have a good opportunity to have them replaced coming up, as I'm having my shop replace oil seals (how's $350 for that task! That's Scanwest in Seattle)
