There's no cable on a Classic 900 clutch... It is hydraulic.
Sudden loss of clutch operation is most likely due to the rubber part of the line getting a hole in it, or failing altogether. The clutch line goes from the snout of the clutch master cylinder (buried under the brake MC), along the inner fender to a point near the radiator. Here, it transitions from a steel line to a rubber line for about 8 inches, then back to a short steel bit, and into the clutch slave cylinder.
It is a very DIY job, you just need to find a new line, or, find a shop that will splice in a new flexible section for you. You need the flexible bit because the motor moves on the mounts, and if it weren't there, the line would bend and fatigue and break much sooner.
