It is very common for the "A" accumulator spring to go out and affect the 3-4 upshift. That doesn't mean that this is your problem.
At this point, it depends on your willingness to tackle some of the diagnostics yourself. For the accumulator spring in question, the valve body has to be removed. On the underside is an outboard valve housing that has two relatively large accumulator valve. If you remove the four screws holding the end plate, the plungers and springs can be removed. the one on the right looking into the bores is the "A" accumulator. This spring is made of a very lightweight alloy that embrittles with useage. When I pulled mine, it was fractured, but was still working - I actually snapped it in two when I was handling it.
Parts are available from Eriksson. In my opinion, they are also the best source for rebuilds of ZF transmissions, valve bodies, torque converters, etc.
Again, this is only a diagnosic recommendation for a common failure. If you want to pursue delving deeper, virtually anything else other than tightening the "C" brake band and measuring the system fluid pressure involves a complete removal and disassembly.
Good luck,
Steve B
