That article is very nice, and proves that on the internet you can find whatever answer you want.

In the beginning of the 90's when people started to talk about converting A/C systems, the standard answer was that it was not possible without a major reconstruction of A/C system.

And both Saab and Volvo came out with this very specified conversion table, where it listed different years and model and what parts that was needed.

Cars in mid 80 and older, pretty much needed every single part exchanged.

But just as the bumblebee don't know that it can't fly, People didn't know that they couldn't convert their systems and did it happily, with most of them working pretty good.

Some shady car dealers even sucked all the R12 out of the cars coming in to the lot, pushed R134 into the system without even adding any oil and sold the R12 on the side making a double profit. Those systems worked too.

The thing here is that NO car A/C system last very much longer than 3-4 years from new. And most repaired systems on old cars last more than a couple of years before the next hose replacement or compressor replacement.

That's the sad facts. By doing everything in your power with cleaning and adding right oil you might prolong the life of the system but not with that much.

If the rest of your system is in good shape, you should not worry about those 10% reduction in effect.

We have pretty high temperatures here in SO CAL too, and a properly working converted A/C system on a 9000 works for all our customers.
