I've owned an '86 9KT, '91 9KT, and now a '95 Aero. I disagree that the Aero is more hype than substance. Compared to my '91, a very similar car, the '95 is more solid (new body structure), has more amenities, is marginally faster, has better seats, and gets better fuel mileage because of the taller gearing.

I would look into a '95-'97 (or '98 CSE for that matter), as these cars have a tasteful wood dash and console insert, very good Harmon-Kardon stereo, remote locking, telescopic steering, etc. The '95 has all these items and later cars had only very minor changes, though after '95 the Aeros had nifty storage pockets on the console and seat fronts, much needed since the glove box was nixed to accommodate the passenger SRS.

I wouldn't worry about GM influence, as most I think would agree this change was more positive than negative for Saab. Had it not been for GM Saab would likely have gone under, and if anything reliability has increased in later years, the 9-5 being an example.

But if you've found a nice '94 and like it, I say go for it! These are very nice cars and you will enjoy it, even with the issues pointed out earlier. If it is a slushbox (auto), beware that these have a high failure rate after 100k or so. Also, avoid TCS if possible, which was optional in '94-'95 and not available thereafter. At 130k miles you could be looking into some repairs (clutch, slave, motor mounts, etc.), but much of this could have been replaced already. Get a copy of the service records, if any, and let us know what has already been done. The price?
