The intent of my post was to get Kuzzin (and anyone else interested) in thinking a little more about what they want in a vehicle. And the replies show that people are thinking about it and making their decisions.
I want to make sure that the decision to buy an Aero isn't just that 'An Aero is supposed to be the best/fastest, so that's the one I'll get' without thinking it through a little more. There are some compromises - seats, rarity/price, and alternatives - different years of somewhat similar performance, upgrades, etc.
And of course, we always speak in generalities - we can talk about the '91T's versus a '95 Aero as a breed, but in the end, we only buy one car (alas!) Any group of cars runs from the beat to the creampuff, and we all want the creampuffs. But if all you can find in a reasonable time are beat Aeros, a creampuff CSE might be a decent tradeoff. Some Aeros are beat, and some are babied. You want the babied ones. But depending on where you live, you might have to travel to see it. It's good to think through exactly what you're looking for, because it's not like going down to the dealer to pick one up from stock - availability and condition vary with used cars. You might be lucky and find one right away. But it usually works out with used cars that you run down a few dead ends first - the low-mileage pristine car (at least from the classified in the paper) that turns out to be low 100K miles, and pristine only at 20 yards on a dark night, in a snowstorm. Or the sweet-looking beauty on the dealer's lot for $4K more than you wanted to spend, and a total lack of maintenance records. It's real tempting, you can swing the loan for another year, but was the brake fluid ever flushed? At times like that, it's nice to know your options.
But for the person that sets their heart on an Aero, then by all means go for it. Be prepared to wait for it. But that's true of any used car. Wait, select, and don't settle.
