Removing the TCS is definitely a thought. I find that the car does not benefit from the TCS at all, especially in the snow. In fact the only time the TCS might be of use is if the car had it's factory basically three season tires on it and it was caught in the snow. But with gislaved's I run on it the TCS limits the ability of the vehicle.

My basic plan is to do all of the mechanicals on the engine and then revaluate. I doubt the car will be running 100% with just the mechanical stuff fixed. So then I'll take it up to Paul Dolmetsch in VT. Paul has in the past rewired a 92 9kt that had an engine fire, so he knows his way around the tcs. He has told me that a properly running tcs car is actually more repsonsive than a non tcs. I am skeptical, but this does hold true for the newer saabs where the drive by wire actually helps eliminate turbo lag. If the system needs only minor adjustment and or cleaning I may get a 93 abs ecu and have paul wire up a tcs-off switch.
If the throttle body needs to be replaced (I think it might)or something else costly like that I may just go for the 91 ecu, abs and throttle body and just eliminate the system, an idea which I like in terms of long term reliability.

I plan on doing the job in three days, my buddy will also have access to saab's actual repair books, becasue he has a friend who is a saab mechanic. I guess I need to decide on the head first. If I open up the car and then find out I'll be stuck in Mass, and miss a week of work, which would cost me the difference between resurfacing a good head and replacing a bad one with a built SD head....

Thanks, Chad
