I plan to do my timing chains and headgasket with a buddy who is a pro mechanic and has a huge three car garage (and easily $50,000 plus in snap-on tools). From listeing to my car idle, he thinks that I may have a burnt exhaust valve. My question is how deep do you have to go into the engine to find out for sure? Can it be examined just by removing the timing cover?

If it is burnt and the head needs a valve job plus resurfacing (which I'd do no matter what) I may just try to find a credit card that can take a swedish dynamics built head for me....you know just to make the job go smoother. Any way what do you think and what else did you do when you did your timing chains (I've alread done the water pump, tensoiners, serpentine et al.)
