Ramen is exaggerating again, as always.
It only took three consecutive weekends, and then two workdays out of the following week. It was actually in January, and it wasn't really frostbite, just that intense, bone deep, searing pain of blood circulating again after your extremities go numb. We walked a mile in 22 degrees and got a taxi.
I only stepped in one calf deep puddle at the junkyard, and the ice water didn't quite fill my boot all the way. I'm not sure if Roulin Mouge was as lucky. I made up for it by getting Roman a nice McDonalds lunch on the way back from Rum's.
In the end, it wasn't hatred Romulan was feeling towards my car and I, it was more like postpartum psychosis, combined with road rage, and a hint of penis envy.
It would have been sad if the whole experience had destroyed Ronin and Sarah's relationship. After all, girls can be cold when they're ready to break up with you because you're ignoring them to work on your friend's car(or your own), and being covered head to toe in grease while you try to kiss and make up doesn't help either. But I knew she wouldn't do it, because Ropedin is just such an intensely beautiful man.
I owe Roman and his family and Sarah a tremendous debt of gratitude for those three weeks in January. Although I've spent dozens of hours since then lying under Roman's car on the floor of his garage, it doesn't really compare. Owning a Saab is far more manageable when you have a sympathetic friend who can turn a wrench.
