I bought four exhaust valves and all of the other parts from eeuroparts. All of the exhaust valves in cylinders 1 and 2 were quite dirty, and of course, one of them was burnt. I didn't actually NEED to replace the three dirty valves, but I had alerady bought them.
I took it to a place in Hatfield (or N Hatfield, or somewhere north of Northampton) called Alldridge Automotive Machine (I think). It's the same place that the Saab dealer in South Deerfield uses. He did an excellent job with the head - he installed the four valves, cleaned up the other valves, put in the new stem seals, machined it, and cleaned everyting so that it looked like new. It cost $275, a good deal in my opinion.
I know exactly what killed my CPS - ME! I forgot to tighten down one of the little retaining screws completely. So upon starting the car the first time after the job was (supposedly) done, the screw fell out and got crunched around underneath the crank pully, thereby destroying both the sensor and the thin aperature disc that the sensor reads from.
The strange thing was that the car didn't stall, so after running for 20 seconds or whatever, the screw must have fallen out EXACTLY when I decided to turn off the car - unless the engine can somehow run at idle without the sensor (?). This made it far more difficult to diagnose. I kept saying, "The car STARTED and ran perfectly for 20 seconds, what the f__k is going on here?" Luckily, I eventually remembered that Quasi's website mentions how the tach needle won't jump during cranking if the sensor is dead. Also noting the complete absence of fuel or spark, it could only have been electrical. Jesus, what a horrible experience that was.
