Well, we have a bit of a hornet's nest here - so where to start?

My BMW is a 93 325i coupe with some mods to increase power but with standard, brakes, suspension and nothing special in the tyres. Even though I have owned seven BMW's and only two Aero's, I am not Aero bashing - I consciously bought the Aero because it has qualities that the BMW lacks and is great fun and very satisfying to drive.

Rather than extolling the relative merits of BMW Vs Saab by way of road test reviews, I would rather go by my own experience driving in the real world. The Aero out accellerates and has a higher top speed than the BMW (but at least here in Australia, driving at more than 20kmh above the limit leads to automatic loss of license - so who cares about whether the top speed is 230 or 240 kmh!). Fuel consumption is almost identical between the two cars and on a narrow windy road the Saab (mine has new Bilsteien's)is no match for the BMW.

What I gather from the feedback is that it appears that 9000 brakes do vary and yes tyres do come into it. The real issue is how hard should we have to stomp on the brakes to stop a car quickly and safely in the real world? And my conclusion - the Aero brakes are OK, but they don't inspire the same degree of confidence as the BMW brakes. Performance cars should inspire confidence in the braking department and 9000's which in all other respects exemplify safety are relatively deficient in the braking department.

By the way I love my Aero!
