I am a college kid and drive mine back and forth from MA to PA (400mi each way). 9000s are a nice comfortable ride with a whole lotta cargo space and Saab safety. But, yes there can be problems...i have been stuck in CT and jersey calling AAA on the side of the road more than once. Its a tough call...if you do get it, i very highly reccommend getting AAA or a similar service. There really aren't any other cars out there that can offer the safety and cargo capacity that a 9k will give you, especially for a 3-5k budget. Don't know what to tell you...maybe a c900 is a better choice? They are a little simpler, mainly less electronics and a simpler design, but you lose out on comfort and some cargo room. But, if you need an automatic, steer clear of the c900s, as those will only bring you trouble. I don't know much about the ng900s, but that might be something to explore...

ps. c900 is the older design (pre- 1994) and ng900 is the newer design (1994 up to the release of the 9-3)
