Hello dboone,

With saab 9000's most of the components in the cars are the exact same thing.

In this case, the ecu's are the exact same, wether on a 5-speed manual car, or an automatic.

The ecu is "told" what transmission it has by a signal sent to one of it's pin connectors.

The signal gets it's power from FUSE 9.

It comes out of fuse 9, and through a number of circuits ends up at PIN 14 of a trionic ECU.

If you pull fuse 9, the power will obviously not get to the ecu on pin 14 anymore... which "tricks" the ECU into thinking that the car is a 5-speed manual, even though it is not.

The reason why this matters so much, is because SAAB limited the power for automatic cars, in order to increase the life of the transmissions.
My 1990 9000 auto transmission died at 90,000 miles... so... they suck. ;)

The need to limit the power is probably necessary, but... for those of you who want the extra power... you can pull the fuse, and get it.

You may want to install a switch so you can turn the "power" on and off... but i'm not sure if this is a good thing...

as there are other circuits powered by this fuse, some other things will not work when you remove it, and the number one thing i can think of is cruise control... but it's up to you if you want to pull it.
