Let's not generalize here. My first car (my still-current car) was a '95 9k CS, which I very soon converted to FPT. I've never had an accident yet ('cept the dog story, but there was nothing I could do about that), and the turbo isn't going to kill me anytime soon.
Actually the first car I drove was my dad's '97 E320, which is a very powerful car. I also drove my mom's 900 SE, another quick, turbocharged car. Those were the cars I drove full time till I got the 9000 a few months after getting my license.
Now my friend, his Grand AM SE and the boulder on the corner are a story for another day, my friends.
