Yes, I was speaking of the valve guide seals. From what I understand, the Saab guides hold up pretty good.
The timing guides will be more work because you will have to remove the front cover. If you do that (I probably wouldn't, but many people do) you will also need to replace the oil pump o-ring and the front crankshaft seal. Personally, when I replace the tensioner and belt, I usually spend the extra to do the two pulleys, but that is not absolutely necessary.
When you take the head in, just remove the cams and bearing caps and mark them and keep them in order. Don't switch them around. The last time I took in my head, they switched the cams and caused me all kinds of headaches. Let the shop remove the springs because they have the tools. Don't let them grind the valves as Saab valves have a special coating and grinding will ruin them. I don't know about the performance upgrades, but the Performance forum can help you with those.
I tried using the silicone trick on the upper mounts and I was not happy at all. Much more vibration. I just installed new ones by cutting out the old ones and using a press at a friend's shop. The press made it easy. If you don't have a press, take off the dogbone and the alt mount, cut out the mounts, mark the orientation of them, and let the shop press them in. It's pretty easy with a good press.
