If you do not know anything better, you'll think the space is the best tool to have loosening the belt. Once you know there is a better way, believe me you will leave the spacer in your garage collecting dust. On my first 9k I used to use a 6" C-clamp to compress the tensioner and had it slipped off many times struggling to get it done in about an hour and a half. Once I learned from this board the breaker bar method to remove the belt, it is the only way I did from then on.
