what's a car worth?

I went to look at a Huyundai Elantra GT today for fun - the main rationale was that it was cheap and it was a hatchback... So what determines car value? I know everyone on the board thinks that SAAB's are the only cars a person should drive - but really why do we hold to this tenet?
The Huyandai I looked at had all the standard features a saab has: sunroof, leather seats, a 2L 140HP engine, hatchback, thick anti-sway bar - side airbags... its like all of the "luxury" features were included but I'd definitely rather buy a SAAB 900- and I'd also agree that the 9000 feels more "solidly" build - but how can I substantiate - if I'm trying to convince someone else that a 9-3 is really worth 10K more than a similarly "equipped" asian car... What is it that I fail to see in this?
