Saab's robust chassis saves money in long run

Last year a fully loaded (5 people inside) Mercedes S500 rear ended my Saab 9000 CS, pushing me forward to hit a cab, that cab then hit another cab in front of it.
The Mercedes smashed its front and fan. The cab in front of me has its boot crumbled as if it were made of aluminium foil.
My Saab was damaged of course but its chassis was so tough that the mechanicals were all protected. The engine and even the air-conditioner were working.
If my car were a Camry or Accord, let alone a Hyundai, it is likely to have been written off following such an impact, and I have to buy another car which is more expensive than fixing the Saab.
This shows buying the cheaper Japanese or Korean makes may be false economy if their less strong chassis render them more likely to be written off.
