Hopefully, it is the front main bearing. That would be a quick fix(wishful thinking) Come to think of it, the metallic rattle/shearing... before the engine died seamed like it was coming from the front of the engine. I had opened a two stroke engine a couple of months ago, and it had a seized front main bearing. Could this be it? and the bearings came loose and eventually caught??
It makes one ponder...I was going to take the car on a long trip in January. It is a good thing it happened now then at that time. I always wondered why Larry Williams carried a spare engine in the trunk, and now it makes some sense.
