Any chance it's the vibration damper disc on the front?

Just GUESSING here, since it's been an unfortunately long time since I've owned a stroker. But...
The vibration damper is a little spring-loaded disc on the front of the engine that smooths out crankshaft torsional vibrations. If the spring becomes weak, it can flop around and eventually fail.
On oil-injected engines the oil pump also is driven from this area, and I believe there's a shear coupling built into it that cuts off the distributor drive if the oil gets too thick to pump (because of cold weather, for example.) This would cause horrible noises and a non-running engine, but would be relatively non-catastrophic to fix.
But everybody else is right -- evaluate the whole problem before you dive in and start trying fixes.
