Hi Justin,
Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40 is an excellent conventional oil. It's dual rated, meaning it meets all current gasoline engine specs as well as all current diesel engine specs, so it's completely safe for all gasoline engine & exhaust emissions components. It's made from higher quality base oils, & contains a better additive package, than most gasoline-engine-only oils. As an extra bonus, most current light-duty diesel engines are turbocharged, & this oil (along with other top dino diesel oils like Chevron's Delo 400 & Pennzoil's Long Life) is designed with that in mind. Saab's own OE oils are formulated as dual rated oils, so we're not discovering anything Saab hasn't known for years.
Personally, I wouldn't use anything other than a full syn oil in a gasoline turbo engine, but that's just me. This brings us to Delvac 1 5W-40 full syn. This oil has all the benefits of being dual rated AND being a premium, Group IV (PAO), full syn oil. It'll flow better when cold, protect better when hot, hold up better in the High Temperature/High Shear environment of your turbo, keep your engine cleaner, your teeth whiter, etc, etc. It'll easily go 10k miles between changes & still offer more engine protection than any conventional oil after only 3k miles of use.
The drawback for D1300S is its cold temp viscosity. If your area routinely sees temps below freezing in the winter, then this oil's probably not the best "first choice" during those times. The drawback for D1 is its cost. The best price I've found in my area is about $30/gal, or about $7-$8/qt. This is sort of a moot point however, because Mobil has recently introduced a version of D1 as M1 5W-40 "Truck & SUV oil," & it sells for the same price as all the rest of the M1 flavors at about $5/qt.
In a non-turbo engine, D1300S would have no problem going 5k miles between changes. You could probably go as long as 10k miles, but I haven't done it so I can't tell you to do it. What I WILL be doing is running M1 5W-40 for 20k miles in my two non-turbo 900s, & for 10k miles in my 9³'s turbo engine.
