Hello,

I have a 1995 900s with a normally aspirated 2.3L motor that doesn't want to start "dead" cold unless I open the throttle slightly.

If I try to first start without throttle, at the first attempt it will idle for a few seconds then die.
Subsequent (non throttled) starting attempts will just turn the motor without improvement towards starting.
This past summer I changed plugs, o2 sensor, distributor cap and rotor (wires look good), thermostat, water pump, all fluid carrying hoses and the dreaded fuel filter (which according to posts on this board could cause fault by the fuel pressure regulator and possibly the fuel pump itself). I've also replaced the battery about 2 weeks ago.

Sometimes first starting even with throttle opening (slightly) and the engine breathes fire, the idle will surge to about 1.5k to 2k rpm, then motion down to about 900 rpm. However, once the engine gets some heat into it, it consistently runs strong in all gears, under any circumstances.

I'm not sure on how to check for a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or if the above symptoms should point me in another direction (leaky injectors)?

Gas mileage seems about right, and power seems good once engine has heat in it.

Lastly, what is the consensus on the best spark plugs to use in the normally aspirated 2.3L motor?
