I bought a 900 SET new in 1996, has just over 100k miles on it now. I would say the cars are easily maintainable. I do not consider the car to be complicated by today's standards, but more so than an 87 Mazda. Whether they are reliable depends on your definition. My turbo failed at 84k.
The items that fail are predictable and easy to plan for with the exception of the fuel pump and clutch cable, which tend to fail with no warning.
At 95k last year, my car was worth about $1.5k in trade to a dealer, and about $3k street, with small oil leaks, original water pump and suspension, a bad O2 sensor, and a failing SID display. By comparison, 2000-2001 9-3 SE's with 40-60k were selling for $9-$15k.
My car has been a great daily driver, but I spent around $1k last year. It will take another $2-3k this year to bring it into completely working condition, NOT including a fuel pump failure a few weeks ago.
How long a car lasts depends on the driving habits of the owner and climate it was driven in, not just regular oil changes and maintenance. With many short trips in a cold climate over several years, my car is not likely to last 200k miles, but I never expected it to do that.
