From the sounds of it, I think you are ready to tackle most of the problems with the Saabs. One important thing Saabs have that most cars do not, is an amazing online community. There are picture guides for almost every job!
I would say this car is for the DIY, the cost of repairs in SF is incredibly high ($95-110/hr). Sometimes you are in a bind and you have to cough of the money for labor. This is when owning a Saab hurts. Like me, today, for example :). The car will not start and I think is the starter. I could replace it myself, but that would have to wait until the weekend, the cost of renting a car until then is the same as labor at the shop, etc. Long story short, I will pay someone to have it done, even when I know this is something I should be doing myself. Oh well.
If you do get a Saab and need to work on it, give me a holler. I am in the Mission! :)
