Hey thanks for the honest feedback. It seems like some times you get folks that love something so much they will tell you that it is a perfect thing when infact it is not. If I can save up the money and buy one cash I will do so this way I know that I wiull have some money set asside for maint.
I am mechanicly inclined but only for basic stuff. I work on my Mazda when I can. THings I have done to that car since I got it, replace cap roater spark plugs and wires, replace my radiator hoses, added a passanger side mirror. Replaced the insturment cluster with one that has a Tac (it is a 5spd). I could have replaced the valve cover gasket myself, but I was lazy and had a shop do it.
I have also had to get the rear break rebuilt, and it needs some other work done. It needs another allignment, the turning arm on the left side is popping occasionally, so it needs to be replaced, still need to SMOG it for California, needs a tune up and I think the break shoes are about due to be replaced, also I am getting a strange scraping noice coming from the dash board some times. Oh and the heater barely works. But over all I have not had any major problems with the car since I got it about 30K ago.
I am averaging about 20K (Mazda currently has 157,000 miles) a year and I do mostly city driving, but I am a really cautious driver, I do not push the engine that hard unless I am getting on the freeway. The weather here in the San Francisco Bay Area is usually a little chilli but basically jeans and a T-Shirt about 75 percent of the year.
(Comments more than welcome on all the information above.)
One other question I have. How does the SE Turbo handle? I have read that it has fatter tires than the S. My friends take their cars out to Laguna Seca almost every year. I would love to take the Saab on the track. Has anybody doen that on stock hardware? Also how is accelleration. 185bhp and the care weighs a little over 3000 lbs.
Also, how much for a new (rebuilt) turbo? I ask because the engine is supposed to outlive the turbo.
