3 beer rating apply to mediocre DIYer? Posted by IanC [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Saved up all my questions for one night...
I think I have the dreaded leaky o-rings on my water pump. Interestingly enough, the leak seems to be intermittent. I'm Auto-Rxing my car right now meaning I've changed oil twice in two weeks (I drive a lot). The first time there were big drops of coolant that showed up during the oil change, and leaks were pretty common for the next few days. Then it seemed to stop leaking, and the coolant level has been pretty constant. It's been warmer, could cold weather be a contributor here?
Anyway, while I wait for spring to replace the water pump I wanted to confirm Dean's three beer rating. I would rate myself a mediocre DIYer. I've done front and rear brakes (including calipers) and a new cooling fan. I've had trouble with modern drive belts because I have always encountered at least one bolt that didn't want to move, even with a decent size cheater bar. When I start to need more force than I think prudent I give up and take it to the pros.
Anyway, Dean and others on this board seem significantly more advanced. If you fit the description of a DIY newbie and have done this job I would love to know what you think. I also would do short belt mod, pulley replacement, and probably an MBC+A or new BPC.
Thanks!
Ian
