How many beers do you drink normally? :) Opening the hood of the car is 1.5 beers for me. :) It only goes up from there. The Water pump is DEFINITELY more involved than some of your previous projects. It is definitely a DIY, but the coolant change is such a pain in the behind that it complicates matters tremendously.
Assuming everything goes smoothly, I would compare the water pump job to a BAD brake job where you have to drill retaining screws out and you cut your knuckles on the rotor shield :)
Dean has step by step instructions, but he calls for some insane things like a Shop vac to drain the coolant, etc! (joking! :)) Like many DIY jobs, there is a large portion of the job's difficulty that depends entirely on your tools, your jack stands, your jack etc.
If you have pets or small children, the coolant problem is doubly serious. This stuff is poisonous! Sure is an alcohol and biodegradable, but it is poisonous just like mushrooms can be poisonous. Of course I do not know anything about shrooms :)
