I was introduced to drying my car with a damp chamois leather cloth. It is quite a good idea. Especially if the water in your area is hard (i.e. a high calcium content). The hard water tends to leave white stains on the paintwork, which are a pig to polish out afterwards. The chamois leather not only removes those marks, but also puts a shine to the paint!
I recently found some sort of spray-on type wax. I have been using it on my NG900 with no ill effects. I am waiting for the paint on my 9-3 to harden first before I try it on that car. I had a repray recently, and the body shop recommended that I don't do anything ontowards to the paintwork on the 9-3 for the time being.
