Thanks. I'm glad it's not indicative of that deadly timing chain blow out i've read about here (or does that only happen to v6 folks?) Anyway, I'll do it myself.
You said there are 2 pulleys, not just one (like I thought), can you tell me what the part numbers are or how I can tell them apart (that would help a LOT) and I will order both from eeuroparts.com once I know (or if you a url for the right parts from eeuroparts for my NA 1996 900s 2.3 AT, paste them here for me.
Thanks also for the tip about not using the torx they will send. I can see how trying to get a screw driven into a place that tight would cause much swearing. at least with a bolt you can get a rachet or if that won't fit either, vice grips right?
BTW, I have just got a copy of Haynes...perhaps if there is a relavant diagram and you have a copy too, perhaps you could point me to a page number...I will dig through it tonight in any case.
One last question if I may: Do I have a week to do this or should I not drive it until the parts arrive and I swap em? in other words, what is the worst that would happen? I was quite terrified by the horror stories I read here about timing chains jumping, and was wondering if this would lead to any similar evils? or is it more harmless a fault (pull over if you hear a snap, turn the car off, take the bus home, fix it tomorrow at the side of the road, no harm no foul???)
thanks again! I'll let you know how it all goes!
Tom.
