It seems a little quicker (earlier torque?) than with the stock box. Harder to say compared to the Speedparts setup because there was a definite baritone note added to the induction sounds and I was more focusing on that. The Speedparts kit definitely has a shorter air path - just that curved 3.5" diameter metal pipe you see in the photo and the cone filter clamped on the end. I'll leave it to the engine behavior expertes to say whether that will give you more or less torque than the stock box with a K&N and 3" diameter flared inlet tube.
As for why I went with the speaker tube option, mostly it was for the experimental value of it, to report here how it worked. Also, I guess, because it was thinner, already black, had a very nice flared end included, a more finished appearance, and for only $13 (well more like $20 with the 4-day ground shipping) it wasn't that much more than the drain conduit. And all I had left over to toss or save was a short hunk of extra tube and the unused flare - not a huge long piece of drain pipe to stash in the garage somewhere.
