When I did the funnel mod years ago, I was strictly tackling entrance losses. It helped a lot. As the inside flow diameter reduced to be almost as small as the stock snorkle, the kinetic or dynamic losses from accelerating the air flow were nearly as bad a stock. I was wanting to do a 3" duct mod and had been struggling with how to flare a 3" pipe. I had purchased some materials and had done some cutting when my 95SET got rip'd.
A 3" duct mod can reduce dynamic flow losses very very much. But a straight cut 3" pipe has those entrance losses. The challenge is to deal with both types of lossed effectively at once. So a larger tube diameter and a larger flare on that. One runs out of space.
