I have the 3" inlet mod on my 1998 900SET. The piece of PVC drain tube I bought had a pretty good flare on one end. A little work with a heat gun made the flair even better.
When I used the leftover PVC tube on a friends NG900, I also formed a flair, but by using a propane torch. Not as pretty as the heat gun flair (a few slightly brown spots), but still looked pretty good.
Both of the flairs ended up being maybe 5 to 6 inches in diameter, so a 1 to 1.5 inch flair all aroud the 3" tube. So far has worked great in both installations.
