I'm not going to bother actually answering your question b/c I don't have any unique insight. But it reminds me of an interesting news spot I saw many years ago that really showed the differences in cultures (US vs. Sweden in this case).
First they talked to Motorola. The person assigned to do the speaking was a professional PR person period. They basically said there is no scientific evidence that cell phones pose any danger and that they are considered safe... blah blah blah and all that good PR spin. They could have worked for the tobacco companies in years past. Pure typical PR babbble. Then they got a reply on the issue from the folks at Ericsson. Instead of a PR person they had an engineer on camera. No PR spin. Basically said there is no evidence but it is certainly a possibliity and went on to give some detached technical detail and to state it is worthy of more research. He was basically just entertaining the possible and little more in a matter of fact manner. When the face you put to the public is like the first instance you should fear getting sued; that is why no one cries for the tobacco companies. Wish companies would just be 'real' and frank as in the second case.
