The boxes all say 100Base-T, but the fine print tells the real story. Without a higher speed cable (faster than Category 5)and fast NIC's, you are still running a 10Base-T network.
I installed Cat-5 in my own home nearly 2 years ago (my labor). I would only go with wireless now. The money I saved at that time with a hard-wired router versus wireless was completely consumed with the cost of the wire, jacks, and wall plates. I bought a name-brand wireless router at X-mas for my oldest son for only $50. My youngest son has friends who have bought them new for only $11!!!!!
The data and system security requirements for a hard-wired system is the same as a wireless. The additional security of preventing someone from getting a free-ride on your wireless router signal is the only difference, and less of an issue than protecting your equipment and data which is needed for both.
