But the definition of sports car has changed a bit. Most today are more like what we used to call GT cars, with more creature comforts, less elemental feel.
Like others here, for the mid-life crisis I keep resisting, my votes in order are:
> Factory Five Cobra (a kit like no other--but you do have to build it)
> Early '90s Porsche 911 (coupe or cabrio is fine)
> Porsche Boxster
> BMW Z3
> Honda 2000
> Mistubishi Eclipse roadster (V6, with asst'd upgrades)
I thought an Elise would be cool until I sat in one. I'm 6'2" and while it's fine inside, getting in and out is too much of a chore. Very tight.
I really like the Ariel Atom best, and it would be my top pick, but I don't think you could import one to the U.S. due to our silly regulations. I have thought for years how cool it would be to have a streetable formula car or sports/racing car, and the Ariel Atom is just that. Geez, what a cool ride!
Anyway....
I have been contemplating the toy car topic a lot lately and I keep coming back to wanting a car I can have fun in year round in New England and could even use on trips. That kind of nixes the Cobra, and maybe even the older 911. I keep coming back to the Z3 or the Boxster.
