and their target is people who don't care about cars except as transportation. Those are Toyota buyers. The one who need some ego-enhancement but still want the perception of Japanese reliability get a Lexus.

I haven't driven many Toyotas I actually liked. I don't like their seats or steering and the suspensions are biased for comfort, not any kind of performance. The problem is I can't drive them the way I like on a back roads. They just lose all their composure when you throw them down a road with bumps, curves, off camber turns, etc. If you just drive the speed limit they are fine. If you want to have fun they are a disaster. It's not that they can't go down a fun road fast, it's that they don't feel good doing it.

If I'm ever forced to buy Japanese, it'll most likely be a Mazda or Nissan.
