15.53 sec in the quarter isn't that great but, as you mentioned you did spend almost a second during your reaction times. If that was better you might have been able to pull of an easy 15.2 or so in the 1/4 mile. I use to go there all the time. O.k so I went 3-4 times (not alot)and I really wasn't trying to race others but instead race the clock. If you have a turbo model, you could do some mods for less than a grand and would probably be able to then pull just under 15 second times(14.7)? That would be pretty good. About those tires, Yes! do not destroy them. They aren't cheap. You could always lower the pressure in them though. That's what I always did before I ran. Normal pressure would be like 28-30 psi, but at the track I'd drop them (fronts)down to about 15-20 psi. That allow for more grip and It kept them from spinning as much upon take off. my 2 cent..
