You seem to be implying that APC likes to step in at the worst times, for no reason, to throw you into a guardrail at 90 mph or let you get run over by a semi as you merge onto a highway. Maybe it is just trying to tell you something and protect your engine. Maybe not...I don't have dog-hearing, so I really don't know for sure!
I won't argue your logic concerning a race car application, as anything is fair game there. You can expect to have to do work on a race car regularly. But for any street-driven car, I do prefer a properly functioning APC system. I agree with my brother...you never know when you might get some shitty fuel, and I just want to drive hard without thinking about controlling boost. Maybe I am just kidding myself, but I believe a well-tuned but intact APC system is a dependable safeguard against a roasted engine. My '85 turbo would be scrap without it, but it still hauls at 258K and counting...
Mike's SPG has 20+ psi with functioning APC... but the trans blew up first, of course! Maybe what Mike and I consider to be a high performance street C900 is babyshit. I did outrun a '96 M3 from 55 to 125 mph three times, though...with APC. Mike's got his own kill stories... :)
Just my experiences...
