say it without insult to those of you who I disagree with. Eric H. is 100% correct. You are crazy to run without any protection against detonation. A manual boost controller is a cheap and stupid way to try and get extra power out of a SAAB.

There are generally two different ways detonation is controlled. They are through ignition retard(most common) or boost reduction(uncommon). There is absolutely nothing wrong with how the APC works. If you are getting boost kickback, it is for a reason. If you properly set up your car, the APC will allow for all the rock solid boost you want.

Jay you should know better. You could be experiencing detonation and not even know it with a manual boost controller.

Justin, why not spend some money on a water injection system? I think that having a more sophisticated ignition system is a great idea, but without something to control detonation, you will still lose lots of torque through ignition retard. Use both systems plus water.

Both of you seem like intelligent guys who like to do things right. Please be careful on what you endorse because there are many here on this board who may follow your advice and pay for it later.

To reiterate what Eric said, the only Turbo SAAB motors I know of that have encountered catastrophic failure are those running without APC protection and some dummies who ran them out of oil.

EVERYONE BE SMART AND SAFE WITH YOUR ENGINE!!

Steve
