If you can't put the power down to the ground, why have it? So you can do burnouts and blow up your transmission even faster?
Limited slip, now there's a concept. I've heard of people buying one, but I don't think anyone here (on this BB) has it on a C900. I spin tires through 3rd, though my brand new Pilot Sport tires have made the problem decrease some, as will my impending suspension modifications (Intrax springs and Bilstein shocks).
This, of course, must be mated with a custom made clutch. SPG9 and Swedish Dynamics offer upgraded clutch packages, but they use the stock Pressure Plate. When I swap out clutches every 5K miles because they start slipping, the disc looks brand new. It's the plate that's worn out. Cookin says he has a PP from ACT, but they do not show Saab on their product list. Custom made, or figured out what fit? I'd like to know!
I do not claim to have anywhere near those kinds of HP numbers, but I am still experiencing clutch slip (on a brand new clutch and PP!) and transmission death. Also keep in mind that I have the newer flywheel and clutch kit (89+). I'd say I'm putting down MAYBE 230-240 at the wheels (probably not) and I blew up my transmission. 400 hp is not going to blow up a Saab transmission? Are you insane? Maybe that Sentra box can take it, but the POS Saab box sure as shinola can't.
REMEMBER THIS: My transmission drove and sounded PERFECTLY FINE until 3rd just exploded, stranding me 200+ miles from home. Look at the photos! That was in my car! It WILL happen to you if you push the limits of the Saab 5 spd! THEY SUCK! Even the "reinforced" 4 spds claim that 3rd gear STILL can't take that kind of power! This is no myth, this is just showing you what ya'll refuse believe. This transmission did NOT have 200K miles on it, either. The pinion bearing was just fine, and will probably get reused, as will the rest of the gears. 3rd just can't take it! AND, even if third gear survives, yor pinion bearing will likely give up. OR, if you survive all of that, the transmissions case will probably crack, because it is not made of steel!
Feel free to ignore this. I (and many others on this BB who've experienced this) fully expect to see ya'll post on here within the year that your transmission exploded. If you choose to ignore this warnings, then please don't come back here and say that Saabs suck and all that nonsense. The world is full of limits, and the Saab stock transmission is our bain. Eventually, you come to accept it!
