Hey Aaron, I don't know anything about the brake holding trick. I didn't try to give it "full trottle" while the APC solenoid wire was disconnected. I was being fairly gentle as I thought I'd screw something up. What I did was push it hard enough to where I knew it should be hitting say 10 psi but, it only reached 3-4 psi. That's how I knew it was low and didn't feel the need to test any further.
Earlier today I went up to the shop on base where I use the lift from time to time and got up under there to see what need to be adjusted with the waste gate rod. After first realizing there isn't much room under there to do the adjustments, I loosened the 11mm nut on the rod and then started turning it to make it shorter(4 turns). I didn't see any e-clips or Jesus clips or whatever. Just that 11 mm nut?
Took the same test drive with the APC solenoid wire unhooked. Base boost did look better as it now read about 4 psi solid and did touch the 5 psi mark once or twice.
Hooked eveything back up to do some test runs. The tempature tonite was closer to 56-58 degrees though. Found that same road and these are the results:
1st gear = still stuck in vacuum (5-6 Hg this time though)
2nd gear = 8-9 psi boost @ 4,000 rpms w/spikes up to 10 psi
3rd gear = 15-16 psi of boost @ 4,000 rpms w/spike up to 17 psi
4th gear = 15-16 psi of boost @ 4,000 rpms w/spike up to 17 psi
5th gear = 15-16 psi of boost @ 4,000 rpms w/spike up to 17 psi
Like yesterday, I can hold these numbers steady and solid, 15-16 psi comes easily.
unlike yesterday though, I did hit the OVERBOOST-FUELCUT-PROTECTION SWITCH twice..I was ready for it as I knew it would be comming soon with the psi I've been seeing. The engines power just cut back briefly then acted normal again. Not frightening at all, like I've read here in the past.
Went back to DIY car wash and pulled that switch from under the dash and turned it's center screw ONE full turn. I've read that it comes into play at 14-15 psi but, I think it's really more like 17 psi. Either that or they can vary from car to car?
Time for more testing!
See Ya,
Phil
