Ouch, this is a touchy subject. :)
And not to start anything all over again--but for what it's worth, the combination of: 3" DP w/full 3" sportcat exhaust, "race"-type intercooler, open element air filter, and improved turbo inlet pipe have not created any problems with lean running/boost surging, etc, and have given a noticeable increase in power on my PARTICULAR car. That's not saying that it's not possible that some won't have problems on other cars, but just that on my car I haven't had any problems. Running an independent boost gauge and wide band O2 w/data log to verify.
'01 SE: Ran a 14.53 1/4 last Friday at 97.XX mph (think it was 97.7 but the slip is in the car right now)...and backed it up with 2 other 14.5x runs.
But it is best to do both hardware and software to fully optimize potential of all pieces (working on the SW for mine at the moment and can't hardly wait!).
