TIMEOUT!
Given that my '87 9kT still has the original chain and turbo at 203.9k,
are you saying it's life is over???? Just what IS the life of a Saab?

Granted, when it's warm, you can hear a combination of chain clatter &
lifter noise at idle...it _still_ goes like heck in this mild 40deg.
'winter', (aside from 'junk in the trunk') it doesn't rattle going down
the road, it has an oil leak but doesn't burn oil and there's no
rust...lots of life left in it!

I had an '82 Benz 300D turbo before the 9kT and I can tell you Benz
people take timing chains _very_ seriously. It had 201k and I just
changed the chain and upper tensioner before I sold it. On the Benz
mailing list, 97% of owners changed their chain around 200k(a double
chain, BTW). The remaining 3% were utterly fanatical about oil changes +
they checked wear themselves on a frequent basis...almost a sadistic
game to see who could keep the original chain the longest. The current
'winner' (before I sold the car and got off the list) was ~360k and
counting...pity the poor slob who _lost_ that game! Engine rebuilds
start at $5k or you can get a factory certified rebuild for $6k +
installation! YIKES!!
