With two kids and the 'quad seating' -- the kids each have their own captains chair as well -- which prevents 'my side/your side' types of fights during trips. In my sedan, at least that little divider comes down (the thing in the middle with the cup holders) for some form of separation.
Plus, I forgot to mention the 100 lb Chocolate lab that often is along for the ride -- a wagon, while capable empty, would probably require luggage on the roof if you take the dog along. With the minivan he hangs in between the captains chairs and often rests his head on the cargo bag I have in between the front captains chairs. Plus, I'd imagine those roof carriers are a bit of a wind drag -- not to mention a pain in the neck to load and unload.
