Anyone know how they get this data?

This data, to me, seems absolutely useless. For instance, what does an "injury" mean in terms of accidents? Was there one accident that caused two injuries? Perhaps there were less collisions with the Saab 9-5 than with, say, the BMW 3-series, but the Saab had MORE injuries per accident. That would make the Saab less safe. Also, the collision number is based on how much was paid out, I believe. Does this mean that Saab drivers are less likely to get in an accident? Does it mean that, for the same number of accidents, less money was handed out? Does it mean that the safety of the car has caused less money to be handed out?
Plus, was any effort taken to do this on a "per hundred car basis"? There are certainly many more BMW 3-series cars than 9-5s, so, for the overall rates of injury, collision, and theft to be higher for the 3-series than the 9-5s would be of no surprise. If they divided these numbers by the amount of cars per group (i.e., 100 collisions per 10,000 BMW 3-series 4 doors), it would make sense.
Of course, like most studies, there's nothing here to tell you how they actually derived the numbers.
