I don't disagree with you on this, but the big problem is that most shade tree mechanics don't know where the limit is in the first place, so going beyond stock becomes an experiment.YOu just hope it does not break prematurely. Within a manufacturing environment, they have the means to calculate the limits of various components, test samples at higher than planned stress levels, and then produce the finished product with some margin for error.Aftermarket tuners are generally seeking the quickest and of necessity, the cheapest way to get their product into consumers hands. This often means that when data is insufficient to fully support the limits of an aftermarket part, they can simply say,"User accepts full responsibility for the use of this product, and there is no warranty expressed or implied". Take a look at the warranty information supplied with just about any aftermarket part, especially ones that are drive train related.
I have personally hot rodded about a dozen of my own cars, and at this point have decided that factory stock or optional is best for me. With the amount of sophisticated electronics now controlling out cars, the ability of most of us to both understand and maintain our own modifications is compromised.
