Thanks Lou. Can I ask where you found that number? Does it apply to both the auto and manual transmission? Is the number the same for 2000-2001 models as for 2002?
It is an interesting number to consider. I think that this really sets the limit on off-the-line acceleration. Aftermarket performance mods would again do no good unless the T7 software was changed to increase this torque limit. You must also consider the fact that this limit must have been designed into the system for a reason. Either the transmission can't handle the full torque in the lower gears, or maybe any extra torque would just result in wheel spin. Why else would Saab have set the limit? Same with the peak torque limit of 258. It must be there for a reason. If you modify the car to exceed these limits, you take your chances.
Another interesting thing to consider is the comparisson between the torque output of the Aero and the other models. The base/linear has 207 lb/ft of peak torque, and the SE/Arc V6 has 229. Assuming that these are not limited to anything less in 1st and 2nd gears, then the difference between the Aero and Linear in thouse gears is only 21 lb/ft, while the Aero and Arc are equal. Thus for the Aero's power to be truly appreciated, it has to be driven fast (i.e. 3rd gear and above). For low-speed around-town driving with frequent off-the-line acceleration in 1st and 2nd gears, the Aero may not feel much faster than a the other models under those conditions. I'm just guessing here, not speaking from experience. Any other thoughts/comments?
