I don't think any aftermarket system would be able to use any of the Saab parts other than the roof blade antenna and cable. The OnStar box is probably incompatible with other manufacturers equipment.
I would be extremely reluctant to mount a permanent, dash mounted system in my car. If I was ready to blow $1500 to $2000 I would go with a Magellan NAV 750:
It has the entire USA database installed in its hard drive - no CD or DVD drives needed, and can be made portable so you can move it to another vehicle, like a rental car in a far away city.
If Saab offered a dash mounted system I would consider one, but no way would I rip apart my car for a permanent aftermarket one.
In the meantime I use a $250 Magellan MAP 330 handheld with suction cup mount - it does fine, though it sure doesn't look as sexy as the expensive systems, nor does it talk to me.
